Chair Carolyn Riggs Steps Down from Greene County Democratic Committee

December 31, 2021 -- As one year closes and another begins, the officers of the GCDC wish to share that our Chairwoman, Carolyn Riggs, will be stepping down at the end of the year. She accepted a new position that will take her away from Greene County for extended periods of time. While she will remain in Greene County and active with the party, the role of Chair demands more attention and care than she can provide in her new role.

Riggs served as County Chair from 2019-2021. Previously serving as campaign manager to Brian Flynn and Aidan O’Connor Jr., Riggs fell in love with the great northern Catskills and made her home in Hunter. During her tenure she led efforts to mitigate and manage the committee through a pandemic, including donating more than 250 homemade masks to families in need. She helped recruit the largest slate of Democratic candidates in the history of Greene County for the 2021 general election, aided in raising close to $20,000 to support Democratic candidates, and assisted Town Chairs and candidates with their campaigns. She also served as a representative to the 3rd Judicial District, Democratic Rural Conference, and the NY State Democratic Party and State Committee.

“It’s been one of the greatest honors of my life to serve Democrats in Greene County as Chair,” Riggs stated. “It has truly been a privilege to work alongside many of you the last few years and I know that what lies ahead in 2022 will present us equally with challenges and opportunities to share our values and elect candidates who are committed to the work of the people.”

Co-Vice Chair Laura Goodwin said, "We all wish Carolyn the greatest success in this next step in her career and offer our deep gratitude for the energy and skills she brought to the committee over the past few years. The committee is well positioned to take on this next step together and we're so glad she will remain our friend and neighbor in Greene County."

Co-Vice Chair Patrick Kennedy said, "We thank Carolyn for her tireless efforts on behalf of the GCDC for all these years. Her commitment and passion to the democratic process has been invaluable to us, and we wish her the best in her new position."

Candidates interested in running for County Chair can request a position description from Megan Henry, and consult the Greene County Democratic Committee bylaws. The Greene County Democratic Committee Executive Committee will be accepting Letters of Interest from candidates through January 14, 2022. Those letters can be emailed to the Secretary, Megan Henry at info@greenecountydemocrats.com. The Executive Committee will then schedule interviews and candidates for the position will be recommended to the larger County Committee at the January Annual Organizational meeting, scheduled for January 27, 2022.
